What is Soft Pastel?
Soft pastels are a fine art, chalk medium. The beauty of soft pastels lies in their ability to create both delicate softness and rich, velvety textures. Pastels come in many forms such as pencil, stick and pressed powder form. I use all 3 types to create different textures, fur types and fine details. Each portrait is drawn on the highest quality pastel paper available on the market, Pastel Mat. It has a unique texture that is velvety and lightly abrasive to hold the layers of pigment tightly without the need for fixatives. This paper is also acid-free which makes it archival quality to ensure longevity and the colors stay vibrant over time.
How to Care For Your Pastel
You will receive instructions in your package to help guide you on unboxing and caring for your portrait. Soft pastels sit on top of the paper rather than drying into it, which means they can smudge if touched. To prevent smudging, it is best to avoid touching the artwork directly. Your drawing will arrive mounted and matted, so it is ready to frame immediately. The mat provides a gap between the drawing and the glass to prevent it from touching the surface of the artwork. Once your portrait is framed, it is important to display it in a spot away from direct sunlight to prevent fading. With proper care, your portrait will remain a beautiful keepsake for years to come!
